Vaser Liposelection – body contouring for today’s active lifestyle

What is Vaser™ LipoSelection? How does it differ from traditional liposuction?

Exciting new patented ultrasonic technology from Vaser™ enables body fat to be melted before removal by gentle suction having less of a traumatic effect on surrounding tissues – and you! Fat cells are targeted or SELECTED by ultrasound waves which cleverly avoid other cells such as nerve fibres and blood cells, which in turn causes less bruising, swelling and post operative pain.  The small instruments provided by Vaser™ also enables the surgeon to gently sculpt even the smallest pockets of fat, for example chin, arms, face and neck giving a smooth finish.

What happens during Vaser™ LipoSelection?

First, the area to be sculpted is filled with a special saline solution that helps numb the site and shrink the blood vessels (to minimize blood loss and reduce bruising). This solution wets and fills the area to be treated, making it easier to break up fatty tissue with the Vaser™ LipoSelection system's sound energy. Then, a small probe transmits sound energy (similar to that used for cataract removal from the eye) that fragments fatty tissue on contact, while leaving other important tissues relatively intact. Finally, liquefied fat is removed through a gentle suction process designed to minimise damage to surrounding tissues.

What is the recovery time after Vaser™ LipoSelection?

Obviously there is no rule of thumb regarding ‘down time’ post LipoSelection but most patients feel ready to back to work within 10-14 days after surgery.  A pressure garment/girdle is worn for 3 weeks night and day after the procedure, then either night or day for another 3 weeks for the best result; this helps to keep swelling and bruising to a minimum and shapes the body.  A course of endomologie may be appropriate to also help reduce swelling.

Can I have Vaser™LipoSelection performed under local anaesthetic?

Very small areas can be treated under local anaesthetic such as the chin but more usually a general anaesthetic is indicated.
